Moana: The Character We All Need (And Deserve)

Pick any old fairytale: You’ve got a damsel in distress, and a prince trying desperately to save her.

There’s 80-90 minutes of just whines, cries, poor-me’s, and if I don’t save her, who possibly could?

Uh, her damn self.

I’m gonna say that again: she can save her damn self.

Newer fairytales, Disney movies, and the like seem to get it a little bit more than they used to.

Take, for example, Moana.

Moana is a badass.

She’s the epitome of a strong, sassy woman, who is confident in her own decisions.

What’s more encouraging: she knows there’s a chance she can be wrong, and she is willing to crash and burn to figure out how to succeed.

She’s the character little girls (and grown women) need: someone beautiful, tough, confident, and strong. In Moana, it’s easy to see that you can be anyone and anything you want to be,. More importantly, she helps you see that you ARE the hero of your own story.

…And she has a great power-anthem. That doesn’t hurt either.

Moana is everything we need and deserve in a Disney Princess. We need more like her.

*This is just a Moana appreciation post. That’s all. Carry on.
